Fun Facts (for a Friday) Intermediate Level
Last week we attended Search Engine Strategies NYC and once again, we learned a lot, met wonderful people and can’t wait to deploy our new knowledge to our client’s ever-evolving campaigns. As the conference progressed, current online marketing facts were shared and some of them just fascinated us (Ok, more like piqued our interest). So here they are. Happy Friday to you and we hope you enjoy the light reading! You Tube streams more than 6 billion videos monthly, according to recent Nielsen numbers. Wow! What are you doing to integrate online video into your marketing strategy? Search has one of the lowest customer acquisition rates because it is a “pull” medium, meaning that people only find you when they need you. Well, we’ve been saying this for years. The average conversion rate for a website is approximately 3%. When is the last time you analyzed the calls to action and conversion rates for your site? U.S. unique monthly visitors to Facebook grew 96.5% (nearly doubling) between January 2009 and January 2010, according to comScore. Yup, we consider ourselves part of that number. In December 2009, Facebook attracted 100 million unique visitors, with the average users spending approximately 6 hours and 24 minutes engaging with the site. Hello Facebook junkies! We like the site too, a lot, but we also urge you to add some outdoor activities to the mix. Twitter grew unique visits to its website by 836.6% between January 2009 and January 2010, (according to comScore). And the infestation of Tweeters continues. The top 2 offline marketing efforts that drive users to search are Television and Word of Mouth (Jupiter Research). Think about the Super Bowl. Consumers are less likely to purchase from a brand that does not appear in search (Jupiter Media). That’s the power of search!
Google, Yahoo & Bing cornered 96% of the search share market in 2009. With Google accounting for 76% (from Marketshare). Not too surprising. There are a higher percentage of B2B companies involved in social media initiatives than B2C, according to Business.com. Ok you made us think a bit with that one. On a side note, we also learned that 37% of this particular study’s B2B respondents admitted that their target audience is not very clear. If you are still reading this, kudos to you! Now please go out and enjoy the weekend - it's been a long holiday week! We promise there will be more juicy slices of internet marketing knowledge to come another day. Questions or comments?
